Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The leading French newspaper “Le Figaro” published an article entitled “Uzbekistan chooses atomic energy,” dedicated to ongoing reforms in the country’s energy sector, as well as the economic potential of the republic.

It talks about the strategic choice of Uzbekistan for the construction of the first nuclear power plant, which predetermined the republic’s joining the club of 30 nuclear countries. The authors cite the head of Uzatom about plans for the construction of nuclear and solar power plants.

The material also mentions the meeting of energy ministers of Central Asian countries with the participation of the Asian Development Bank, which was held in late September in Tashkent.

It is noted that Uzbekistan is the seventh producer of uranium ore in the world, in connection with which, a number of French companies have already established cooperation with it. One of these companies is Orano.

Le Figaro adds that in Uzbekistan, reforms are being carried out not only in the field of energy, but also in the socio-economic and educational fields.

“Youth is also a powerful energy of this country. The young generation is working hard to improve their knowledge and seeks to introduce Uzbekistan to the whole world,” the article says.

The publication notes the intensification of bilateral cooperation of Uzbekistan in the energy sector with other foreign countries, in particular Russia and China. “The Russian company Lukoil is the largest investor in the production of hydrocarbons. Chinese manufacturers are also active in the production of equipment for gas and oil, as well as in construction. Beijing is the largest buyer of Uzbek gas,” the authors write.
