Leaders of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan visit Khujand Fortress

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of the cultural program of the summit in Khujand, the Presidents of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan visited the historic Khujand Fortress, where they explored its rich history.

This unique complex, dating back to the 6th–5th centuries BCE, is a significant historical and archaeological monument. Excavations have revealed that the first fortress, which laid the foundation for the fortified city, was constructed during this period.

Following a reconstruction in 1999, a regional museum was opened next to the fortress, now housing over 28,000 unique artifacts. The latest restoration efforts have helped rebuild the fortress walls, citadel, and gates, as well as construct administrative buildings and artisan workshops that recreate the historical atmosphere of ancient Khujand.

The complex features five exhibition halls dedicated to the history and culture of the Tajik people. In eight traditional courtyards, artisans continue ancient traditions, practicing calligraphy, painting, the production of adras and suzani, stone carving, as well as blacksmithing and pottery.

During their visit, the leaders also toured an exhibition showcasing traditional crafts, agricultural products, and national cuisine. The event concluded with a vibrant performance highlighting the cultural heritage of the region's peoples.
