Leaders of Uzbekistan and Mongolia Summarize Outcomes of Productive Talks

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a press briefing, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh summarized the results of their official talks, giving high marks to the agreements reached and the prospects for bilateral cooperation.

President Mirziyoyev began his remarks by warmly congratulating the people of Mongolia on the upcoming national holiday — the Day of the People’s Revolution — and expressed sincere joy for the successes of the friendly nation. He praised Mongolia’s impressive progress in socio-economic development, industrial modernization, the agricultural sector, and infrastructure, and voiced his support for the country’s foreign policy aimed at peace and constructive engagement.

The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the historic significance of his first state visit to Mongolia, calling it a milestone in strengthening friendship and comprehensive partnership between the two nations. He specifically highlighted the signing of the Joint Declaration on the Establishment of a Comprehensive Partnership, which opens a new chapter in bilateral relations.

According to President Mirziyoyev, the talks thoroughly addressed key areas of cooperation, with specific tasks and steps outlined to expand mutually beneficial collaboration. Since the Tashkent summit in 2023, bilateral contacts have significantly intensified. The first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission was held, and solid channels of dialogue were established.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued close cooperation within the framework of the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and other international bodies.

Economic cooperation was a focal point. The leaders agreed to aim for a significant increase in mutual trade volumes by expanding the range and volume of competitive product deliveries. The opening of an Uzbek trade house and showroom in Ulaanbaatar was identified as a key element of further trade and economic integration.

The successful outcomes of the Uzbekistan–Mongolia business forum were also noted, where entrepreneurs from both countries signed new contracts and agreements. The heads of state confirmed their intention to fully support the business community and accelerate the signing of preferential trade and investment protection agreements.

Priority sectors for industrial cooperation were outlined, including geological exploration, raw material processing, agriculture, livestock, and the light industry, particularly in wool and leather processing. As two landlocked countries, Uzbekistan and Mongolia committed to jointly developing efficient transport corridors, including the launch of a direct flight between Tashkent and Ulaanbaatar this fall.

The leaders expressed strong interest in boosting cultural, educational, and tourism exchanges. President Mirziyoyev noted that the Days of Uzbek Culture were successfully underway in Ulaanbaatar, with tourism agencies from both countries holding business meetings. Agreements were reached to regularly hold joint concerts, exhibitions, film screenings, and festival participation.

There was also a reaffirmed commitment to resuming the enrollment of Mongolian students in Uzbek universities under government-provided quotas. To ensure effective implementation of all agreements, both sides agreed to develop and adopt a joint "roadmap."

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev concluded by inviting President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh to pay a return visit to Uzbekistan.
