It was emphasized that the basic principles of the use of atomic energy are the protection of the life and health of citizens, property of individuals and legal entities, as well as the priority of environmental protection, ensuring safety, transparency of information, banning the production of nuclear weapons and other nuclear explosive devices.
Speakers reported that the Law is of particular importance from the point of view of developing a unified state policy and strategic direction in the field of nuclear energy development and its use.
On the same day, a conference was held on the important tasks of training qualified personnel in ensuring nuclear and radiation safety. Its organizers were the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on defense and security in conjunction with the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on agricultural, water and environmental issues, as well as the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Speakers noted that as a result of an active investment policy aimed at expanding the country’s existing production capacities, as well as ongoing large-scale reforms to improve the level and quality of life of the population, the need for energy increases every year. This requires providing the economic and social sphere with efficient and reliable energy sources.
Today the republic depends on natural gas as a natural energy resource, for the reason that the use of this resource in the total volume of electricity production is 85%. Given this, the Government of Uzbekistan considered various options for the development of the energy sector to ensure stable economic growth of the country. As the main direction, the task of forming the country’s nuclear energy industry is indicated.
