Law on Improving Pharmaceutical Activity Passed in First Reading
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, a draft law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with the Improvement of Pharmaceutical Activity” was considered.
The document aims to further develop the pharmaceutical sector, localize high-demand medicines and medical devices, support the financing of new investment projects, attract foreign investment, and ensure the population has access to high-quality and affordable products.
The draft law introduces the concept of “technology transfer,” allowing the transfer of technological processes for the production of medicines and medical devices from one pharmaceutical enterprise to another. This creates conditions for wider implementation of innovations and the expansion of production capacities.
Additionally, the document provides for the recognition of biotechnological products based on cellular technologies as medicines and defines the legal framework for their use within the healthcare system.
Deputies emphasized the importance of the draft law, discussed specific provisions, and offered suggestions for its improvement. The initiators provided detailed answers to all questions.
The adoption of the law establishes a legal framework for technology transfer, the integration of biotechnology in medicine, expands opportunities for the import and export of medical devices, and stimulates the development of the domestic pharmaceutical industry.
The draft law was approved by deputies in the first reading.
