Law Enforcement Uncovers Series of Corruption Crimes Across Multiple Regions of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement agencies in several regions of Uzbekistan have uncovered corruption schemes in which officials demanded and received bribes. All suspects were caught in the act, the State Security Service (SSS) reported.

In Namangan region, an arbitration court judge demanded US$3,200 in exchange for issuing a decision on the transfer of rights to an unfinished building.

In Ferghana, the chief specialist of the Veterinary and Livestock Development Department received US$500 for issuing a certificate for a breeding farm. Investigators found that part of the amount was intended for his immediate supervisor, who was detained while receiving US$300.

In Samarkand, the head of a private accounting services company demanded US$2,000 for unlawfully arranging pensions for two citizens, including entering false employment records into the official database.

In Tashkent, two department heads from the management office responsible for canal use and adjacent territory maintenance received 30 million soums for promising to help a construction company avoid fines for dumping soil into the Bozsu canal.

Criminal cases have been initiated in all instances, and investigative actions are ongoing.
