Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21 November 2019, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Latvia, Kadambay Sultanov, held a briefing on the upcoming elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The editors of leading Latvian publications “LETA”, “Baltic Course”, “Telegraf.bb.lv”, “Business Class”, “Open City (Free City)”, “Today”, “Career” and others were provided with detailed information about during the preparation for the parliamentary elections with an emphasis on the features of the current electoral cycle in our country.
In particular, it was emphasized that the current elections will be held under the motto “New Uzbekistan - New Elections”. This election process will be held on the basis of a new conceptual document - the Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which has passed international examination. Its development takes into account the recommendations of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the World Association of Electoral Authorities and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The attention of the participants was focused on the innovations introduced in the code, among which the strengthening of the positions and roles of political parties, the abolition of quotas, the strengthening of the protection of the electoral rights of our citizens by tightly regulating the response to possible complaints, the creation of a single electronic voter list, and the active use of technological solutions in the electoral process and social networks, increasing transparency and accountability, providing public oversight and empowering civilian institutions Skogen society during the elections.
It is expected that more than 600 observers from 50 states and international organizations will conduct election monitoring, including the OSCE / ODIHR mission, the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, the CIS Parliamentary Assembly, the SCO and others. An international press center and a call center have been created in the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan. As of November 19, the CEC has accredited more than 225 local and 60 international journalists.
It is reported that polling stations are also created at the diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan abroad, including the Embassy of our country in Latvia.
Latvian journalists familiarized themselves with the information presented, positively assessed the progress of large-scale reforms under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the results of which were the transparency and democratic process of preparing and holding parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan in December 2019.
