Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 2 March 2020, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Ravshan Usmanov in Kuala Lumpur met with Chairman of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) Otman bin Hashim.
SUHAKAM was established in 1999 to facilitate the effective implementation of state human rights policies and the activities of state bodies in fulfilling Malaysia’s international obligations in this area.
During the meeting, the Malaysian side was informed in detail about measures taken in Uzbekistan to reform the country’s judicial and legal sphere, ensure the rule of law, respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms, as well as the implementation by the Government of the republic of the recommendations of the UN Human Rights Council made following the consideration of the Third periodic report of the Republic of Uzbekistan as part of the Universal Periodic Review.
Otman bin Hashim praised the ongoing reforms in the republic and expressed the interest of the Malaysian side in the further development of cooperation with Uzbekistan in this area, including within the framework of international organizations.
As a result of the negotiations, specific agreements were reached on the development of the following issues:
- establishment of interaction between SUHAKAM and the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan in areas of mutual interest, including by signing the relevant cooperation document;
- participation of representatives of the above departments of the two countries in organized thematic events in Malaysia and Uzbekistan.
