KOICA and the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations to establish vocational training center in Ferghana

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), an official agency responsible for the Korean government’s grant aid program, jointly with the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan held the Kick-off Workshop within the project for “Establishment of Vocational Training Center in Ferghana” (2018-2022/ 8.9mln. USD).

The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labor Relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nizamov B.M., Director of KOICA Uzbekistan Office Son Sung Il, Korean delegation comprising the experts of Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS).

Korea and Uzbekistan are continuing close mutual collaboration on priority areas such as education, health and water resources management, and public administration (e-government). Particular attention in the field of education is given by KOICA to projects for the development of vocational training. In this regard, in 2012 a Tashkent vocational training center was put into operation, which as of today has released over 3,400 specialists in such fields as: Automotive, Machinery-building, Electrotechnics & Electromechanics, Information-Communication Technologies. Stable operations are maintained at Samarkand and Shahrisabz vocational training centers, which were built and commissioned with KOICA support in October 2016 and July 2018 respectively.

This workshop was organized to discuss the results of the field research on the new Ferghana project, as well as to discuss and confirm the scope of works, project implementation methods, and selected fields of training in the center being established in Fergana, such as: Electricity, Automotive, IT, Beauty, Dress-making. The parties discussed the future cooperation plans as well.

The originality of vocational training and re-training in the centers, established with the support of the Republic of Korea, is that the curricula and syllabuses for selected areas of study are designed in a completely new way, taking into account best international practices and based on the requirements of the state educational standards. Most importantly, none of the graduates of the centers will be left without a job upon graduation, they will be employed in accordance with the obtained specialization in accordance with the signed 4-party agreements (Employment Assistance Center, Enterprise, Vocational Training Center and an unemployed person).
