KOGAS not to participate in LNG-project in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) will not participate in new project on production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Uzbekistan in mid-term perspective, RIA Novosti reported quoting source close to the company.

The source said that the Uzbek side and KOGAS held negotiations and taking into existing projects KOGAS is not planning to expand a list of projects, in which it takes part.

Earlier it was reported that Uzbekneftegaz is preparing a project on construction of two facilities on extracting and processing of low-pressure gas at three exhausted fields in Kashkadarya region with the cost of US$50 million. Total capacity of the facility will make up 200 million cubic meters a year. It is planned to produce 20,00 tonnes of LNG a year. The project will be implemented within two years.

According to Uzbekneftegaz, currently there are over 50 exhausted low-pressure fields in Uzbekistan with reserves of 60 billion cubic meters. The capacities of Uzbekneftegaz allow to mine natural gas at the volume of 70 billion cubic meters.

KOGAS currently participates in two oil and gas projects in Uzbekistan – construction of Ustyurt gas chemical complex on the base of Surgil field with the cost of US$4.2 billion and conducts exploration works at Uzunkui-Tuarkyr investment block in Ustyurt region in north-west Uzbekistan.
