Khokim of Tashkent meets with a delegation from Singapore

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 7 February, Tashkent khokim Jahongir Artikkhojaev met with a delegation from Singapore led by Singapore’s senior state minister of trade and industry, Ko Po Koon. The meeting, which was also attended by the Ambassador of Singapore Zulkifli Bakharudin, discussed the prospects for relations between Singapore and Uzbekistan, in particular Tashkent.

The khokim of Tashkent drew attention to the fact that the level of development of Singapore today is a subject of admiration, and noted the importance of studying the country experience in the field of construction, logistics, services, healthcare, tourism and many other industries. Noting the strengthening of relations between the countries in the investment sphere, he said that the volume of investment agreements signed between the countries over the past year concluded to 720 million US dollars.

He also noted that the Singapore Institute of Management Development is currently operating in Tashkent, and spoke about the wide opportunities for cooperation in the field of education. In addition, Artikkhojaev highlighted the importance of direct flights between Tashkent and Singapore for the further expansion and development of bilateral cooperation.

In the process of a joint dialogue, the issue of creating a master plan of the city was discussed. Ko Po Kun said that Singapore began to work in this direction in the late 1960s, that when drawing up the master plan, the state drew attention to long-term promising projects, the concept of phased development, and spoke about Singapore’s experience in this direction.

At the same time, he noted that, given the continuous population growth and the expansion of cities, a world cities summit is held every two years in Singapore, after which he invited Jahongir Artikkhojaev to take part in the summit on June 5, 2020, which will bring together mayors of the largest and most prestigious cities in the world.

Also, dwelling on the processes of change and renewal in Uzbekistan and Tashkent, Ko Po Kun noted the high pace of development in the capital - for example, before meeting with the khokim, together with members of the delegation, he visited Tashkent City, where he witnessed the atmosphere that prevails in the most developed countries of the world.

In general, the directions of mutually beneficial relations were comprehensively discussed at the meeting and the parties expressed confidence in the implementation of promising bilateral projects.
