Kazakhstan ratifies agreement on strategic partnership with Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Kazakhstan ratified an agreement on strategic partnership with Uzbekistan, a press service of Akorda said.

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev signed a law “On ratification of the agreement on strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan” on 6 May 2014.

Majilis (lower house) of the Parliament of Kazakhstan passed the law on 2 April 2014 and Senate of Kazakhstan passed the document on 24 April 2014.

In line with the agreement, the sides will develop relations based on equality, mutual trust and strategic partnership. The agreement improves legal framework between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and gave new level to the Uzbek-Kazakh cooperation in politics, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres.

Within the agreement, the sides will render joint support and mutual aid in preventing threats to their independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity.

The document was signed in Tashkent within an official visit of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev to Uzbekistan on 13-14 June 2013.

Uzbekistan already ratified the document. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On ratification of agreement on strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan (Tashkent, 14 June 2013)” on 23 December 2013.
