Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan Advance Kambarata-1 Hydropower Project
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The first round of negotiations was held in Bishkek between delegations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan regarding the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Kambarata-1 Hydropower Station project.
Kambarata-1 is a strategically important initiative for the region, aimed at strengthening energy security across Central Asian states. The project involves the construction of a hydroelectric plant with an installed capacity of 1,880 MW on the Naryn River within Kyrgyzstan.
The talks were co-chaired by Sungat Yesimkhanov, Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan; Altynbek Rysbekov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan; and Umid Mamadaminov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan. Delegations included representatives from relevant governmental agencies and organizations of all three countries.
Special attention was given to the participation of World Bank representatives as observers, highlighting the role of the international financial institution as a key project partner.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to continue joint work on finalizing the provisions of the Intergovernmental Agreement. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for April 2026 in Tashkent.
