Jizzakh Region to Build Monotown for 2.1 GW Nuclear Power Plant Specialists

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Abdujamil Kalmuratov, Director of the Nuclear Power Plant Construction Directorate, told “Uzbekistan 24” about a large-scale project to build a new monotown for specialists of the upcoming nuclear power plant (NPP) and their families. The town will be located 16 km from the plant, designed to accommodate 10,000 families, with a population of at least 30,000 people.

According to the master plan, the 100-hectare area will include schools, kindergartens, residential neighborhoods, parks, sports facilities, and a multifunctional medical center serving not only residents of the Farish district but the entire Jizzakh region.

The project also envisions the construction of a polyclinic, pharmacies, two hotels with 60 and 100 beds, an ambulance station, a cultural center, and other social infrastructure. Residential buildings of five and seven floors will occupy 55 hectares, while 40 hectares around the town will be landscaped as green areas.

Sanitary protection zones, water storage facilities, a power substation, and reserved plots for future housing development are also planned. Kalmuratov emphasized that the President instructed to ensure a modern and exemplary appearance for the monotown, as well as to develop nuclear medicine initiatives.

The project will feature Russian-designed VVER-1000 and RITM-200N reactors with a total capacity of 2,110 MW.

It is estimated that the plant will produce 16–17 billion kWh of electricity annually, supplying 12–15% of the country’s electricity consumption.

The general contractor is Atomstroyexport, the international engineering division of the state corporation Rosatom.

During construction, up to 13,000 jobs will be created, and another approximately 2,000 jobs will be available after the plant becomes operational. The nuclear power plant is expected to have a service life of 60 years.
