Jizzakh Official Detained for Organizing Illegal Sale of Land Plot
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Jizzakh region, authorities have prevented an attempted illegal sale of state land by a local hokimiyat official.
Officers from the State Security Service, together with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, discovered that the chief specialist of the Agriculture Department in Gallaaral district attempted to sell state-owned land through a fraudulent scheme.
According to the investigation, the official planned to sell 11 hectares of land belonging to his son’s farm for US$11,000. He had previously received an advance payment of US$5,000. His actions were intercepted during the transfer of the remaining US$6,000.
Additionally, the official demanded US$700 under the pretext of paying “contacts” in the hokimiyat and cadastral authorities to process the documents, bringing the total illicit payment to US$6,700.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 168, Part 3(a) (large-scale fraud) and Article 211, Part 1 in connection with Article 28 (bribery).
Investigations are ongoing to determine whether other officials were involved in the corruption scheme.
