Jizzakh Official Detained for Attempting to Sell Land Illegally

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Jizzakh Region, an official of the local hokimiyat was detained for attempting to sell land unlawfully.

According to law enforcement agencies, the chief specialist of the Agriculture Department of the Gallyaaral District hokimiyat arranged to sell an 11-hectare plot belonging to his son’s farm for US$11,000. He received US$5,000 as an advance payment.

When he attempted to collect the remaining US$6,000, along with US$700 for facilitating document processing through contacts in the hokimiyat and cadastral authorities, he was apprehended during a joint operation conducted by the State Security Service and the Department under the General Prosecutor’s Office.

A criminal case has been opened against the detained official under Article 168, Part 3(a) (large-scale fraud) and Article 211, Part 1 (bribery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and an investigation is underway.
