Javokhir Sindarov Awarded the Title of “Honored Athlete of Uzbekistan”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has awarded Javokhir Sindarov the honorary title of “Honored Athlete of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”

A member of the national chess team and World Cup champion, Sindarov was recognized for his outstanding achievements in this intellectual sport. In acknowledgment of his accomplishments, the President presented the grandmaster with a three-room apartment, while his coaches received monetary awards.

Sindarov won the World Cup by triumphing in the final held in Goa, India. In the decisive match, he defeated Chinese chess player Wei Yi in a tiebreak, delivering a commanding performance in the second round with a score of 1.5–0.5, achieving a historic victory.

The tournament featured over 200 players from around the world.

The 19-year-old chess player, winner of the FIDE World Cup 2025, became not only the tournament champion but also the youngest winner in the event’s history.

His triumph in Goa also secured him a place in the Candidates Tournament, the main qualifying stage that determines the challenger for the reigning world champion.
