Japan to Provide Uzbekistan with ¥360 Million in Grant Aid for Blood Transfusion System Modernization
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 17 December 2025, Chargé d’Affaires of Japan in Uzbekistan, Mr. Shinichiro Nakomura, and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Health, Asilbek Khudoyarov, signed Exchange Notes under the “Economic and Social Development Program” totaling ¥360 million (over US$2.3 million). The project is being implemented as part of Japan’s grant aid to Uzbekistan.
The funds will be used to equip 14 regional blood centers and three transfusion stations at republican clinics with modern equipment for blood storage and transportation.
Implementation of the program will help meet the country’s growing demand for donor blood and increase the share of blood-derived products produced from voluntary donations.
The project is expected to expand public access to safe blood products and strengthen the national healthcare system through the introduction of advanced Japanese technologies.
This medical support aligns with agreements reached at the first “Central Asia + Japan” summit held on 19–20 December in Tokyo, as reflected in the Tokyo Declaration.
Under the “Tokyo CA+JAD Initiative,” healthcare has been identified as one of the priority areas for cooperation.
The Government of Japan confirmed its intention to continue supporting Uzbekistan in expanding access to quality healthcare services and implementing modern industry standards.
