Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 18 August 2020, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Yoshinori Fujiyama and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Bekzod musaev signed exchange notes on the project "Granting scholarships for Personnel ”(JDS), which is carried out under the program of gratuitous assistance of the Government of Japan, in the amount of 291 million yen (about 2.65 million US dollars).
Japan supports Uzbekistan in the steady implementation of reforms in the field of economy and public administration, as well as promoting democratization. The JDS project envisages the provision of young civil servants, who are entrusted with the future of Uzbekistan, with the necessary funding to obtain a master’s or doctoral degree in Japanese universities, which will contribute to the preparation of qualified human resources in various fields, such as engineering, law, business management, economics, agriculture. economy, health care, education, etc.
For young civil servants of the Republic, this project will provide 18 postgraduate places, and 1 - for doctoral studies in Japan. It is expected that the implementation of this project will allow specialists responsible for the future of Uzbekistan to acquire professional knowledge, apply it in practice for the development of the economy and society of Uzbekistan, as well as deepen understanding of Japan and ultimately contribute to the further development of friendly relations between the two countries.
Despite the difficult epidemiological situation due to COVID-19, the Japanese government intends to continue to contribute to the development of human resources in Uzbekistan in order to further develop bilateral relations, which received a new impetus after the visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Japan late last year.
