Japan interested in expanding import of fruits and vegetables from Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 3 October, the government delegation of Uzbekistan met with Japanese officials, including State Minister of Foreign Affairs K. Suzuki and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Y. Kavano.

Negotiations with the State Minister of Foreign Affairs made it possible to discuss a number of key issues in bilateral relations: assistance in attracting Japanese business circles to actively cooperate with the private sector of Uzbekistan and organizing thematic events, working together to increase mutual tourist flows, preparing for the upcoming visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Japan and intergovernmental partnership to eliminate the consequences of the Aral disaster.

During the meeting with the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the sised considered the possibility of holding the next meeting of a joint working group to strengthen cooperation in the agricultural sector in November 2019, and the initiative to organize business seminars in Uzbekistan aimed at agricultural producers in order to establish direct contacts and exchange of experience between Uzbek and Japanese entrepreneurs and farmers.

They also discussed the prospects of introducing advanced Japanese technologies in the field of agriculture and fisheries and the creation of innovative agricultural clusters with the aim of producing environmentally friendly products.

The Japanese side also expressed interest in increasing imports of fresh and dried fruit and vegetable products by coordinating the interaction of quarantine control bodies of both countries.

Following the results of negotiations, agreements were reached on cooperation in all designated areas through active interagency cooperation and the formation of a program of operational measures to implement the planned initiatives.
