Japan Allocates US$5.6 Million to Uzbekistan for Mammography Equipment

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 14 November 2025, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan, Mr. Kenji Hirata, and the Minister of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Asilbek Khudayarov, signed Exchange Notes under the “Economic and Social Development Program” totaling 859 million yen (approximately US$5.6 million). The program is implemented as a grant from the Government of Japan.

Under the agreement, 17 state hospitals in Tashkent and other regions of the country will be equipped with Japanese mammography screening equipment.

The initiative is expected to expand the coverage of mammographic examinations, facilitate early detection of breast cancer, and strengthen Uzbekistan’s healthcare system through the introduction of advanced Japanese technologies.

This effort aligns with the cooperation framework established at the 9th meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the “Central Asia + Japan” Dialogue held in Tokyo in December 2022. Under the new partnership model, Japan emphasizes “investment in people” and “quality growth,” fully reflecting the objectives of the project.

The Government of Japan confirmed its intention to continue developing its partnership with Uzbekistan to improve public access to high-quality healthcare services.
