Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The khokim of Tashkent, Jahongir Artikkhojaev, met with Chinese Ambassador to Uzbekistan Jiang Yan. The meeting discussed the development of relations between Uzbekistan and China, in particular, the provinces and cities of China, and Tashkent.
Artikhodjaev began the meeting with regrets about the coronavirus epidemic that has spread in China and his willingness to provide the necessary support. He further noted that the khokimiyat of Tashkent appreciates friendly and partnership relations with China and there are many opportunities to bring relations to a new level of development. Speaking about the visit of the delegation of the capital’s khokimiyat to China in January this year, the khokim said that he met with the president of the Silk Road Foundation Wang Yang Ji, as well as with the vice-governor of Guangdong province Jang Sin.
Artikkhodjaev also noted that during the visit the delegation of the khokimiyat met with the leadership of the Chinese company Country Garden Holdings - the meeting was effective, there was an exchange of experience in the field of urban development and the necessary recommendations were received. The hokim also added that there are a number of Chinese entrepreneurs who want to work in Tashkent, and practical assistance from the embassy will be important in establishing and developing mutually beneficial cooperation.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China Jiang Yan, in turn, noted the positive results of the reforms carried out by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the renewed and developing image of Tashkent, the amenities and conditions created in it. Having reported that the total trade turnover between Uzbekistan and China exceeded US$7.6 billion, she added that there is the potential to increase this figure several times.
A detailed discussion of the development of bilateral relations took place at the meeting. Attention is drawn to the prospects for the joint development of the pharmaceutical industry, the field of electronics, solar energy, robotics, fruit and vegetable processing, and others.
Also, the parties, speaking about the conditions created in Tashkent for Chinese investors, discussed the issue of intensifying the process of attracting investment from China. Jiang Yan said that the opening of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Guangzhou is planned in the near future, and announced other activities planned for joint implementation.
