Italian PM visits the Registan Ensemble and the Ethnographic Park “Eternal City”
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Upon her arrival on an official visit to Uzbekistan, the Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, Giorgia Meloni, accompanied by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, visited one of the country’s greatest architectural monuments — the Registan ensemble.
Registan, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is rightfully regarded as a symbol of Uzbekistan’s historical grandeur and a vivid reflection of the cultural and creative legacy of its illustrious ancestors. The ensemble’s madrasahs — Mirzo Ulugbek, Sherdor, and Tilla-Kari — impress visitors with their vast scale, majestic architecture, and centuries-old history, consistently inspiring admiration among guests from around the world.
The Italian Prime Minister was provided with detailed information about the construction of these masterpieces of Eastern architecture, their architectural features and decorative elements, as well as the significant historical events and personalities closely linked to this site. Special attention was paid to the role of Registan in the cultural life of the Uzbek people.
Following this, the leaders of the two countries proceeded to the historical and ethnographic park “Eternal City,” located within the international tourist center “Silk Road Samarkand.” The guests were introduced to exhibitions showcasing the richness of national culture, traditional crafts, and applied arts. The visit concluded with a cultural program featuring choreographic ensembles that reflected the uniqueness and diversity of Uzbek art.
