Issues of ordering weddings, family celebrations, funeral rites and ceremonies discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 18 February, a press conference was held on the implementation of the joint decree of the Kengashes of the Oliy Majlis to organize weddings, family celebrations, funeral rites and ceremonies. The event was attended by members of the Senate Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports, heads of the Republican Center for Spirituality and Education, other relevant ministries and departments.

As you know, on 14 September  2019, a joint resolution was adopted by the Kengashes of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On streamlining weddings, family celebrations, funeral rites and ceremonies." This resolution and the Regulation approved by it entered into force on January 1 of the current year.

Senators and deputies in the course of meetings with residents of the regions carry out targeted explanatory work about their requirements.

The activity of the commissions of the Jokarga Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional, district and city Kengashes of people’s deputies, as well as gatherings of citizens responsible for ensuring the fulfillment of the tasks outlined in the Resolution on the streamlining of weddings, family celebrations, memorial rites and ceremonies, has intensified.

The Cabinet of Ministers has prepared a draft Law "On Amendments to the Administrative Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan", which provides for administrative liability for violation of the procedure for weddings and ceremonies.

The draft document sets the size of the fine for violations by the person who hosted the event, the owners of cafes and restaurants about weddings, family celebrations, funeral rites and events. In the near future, the draft Law after approval by the deputies of the Legislative Chamber will be submitted to the Senate for discussion.

In order to ensure the implementation of the resolution of the Parliament Kengashes by the Republican Kengash on regulating the activities of citizens’ self-government bodies, a "Procedure for organizing the activities of citizens’ chairmen and prevention inspectors in organizing and conducting weddings, family celebrations, funeral ceremonies and ceremonies "was developed.

According to the Committee on Religious Affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers, in October 2019, the fatwa department of the Department of Muslims of Uzbekistan prepared the project “Fatwas for weddings, ceremonies, and memorial rites.”

The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, has taken control of the provision of paid motor transport services for weddings and funeral ceremonies.

To date, the justice authorities have carried out 2793 campaigning events to clarify the essence and significance of the decision of the Parliament Kengashes, organized 2063 seminars, about a hundred television and radio programs, and 395 articles were published in print.

1172 campaigning events were held in mahallas, 374 in labor collectives, 278 in educational institutions and 230 in other departments.

Also, the territorial bodies of the state tax service held 1482 meetings with restaurant owners, during which they explained the need to prevent an unreasonable increase in wedding expenses.

According to the Agency of Information and Mass Communications under the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan in January 2020, 473 materials on this topic were published in the media and on the Internet.

According to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, at present, all its territorial departments have organized meetings with owners of restaurants and other relevant organizations, during which explanatory and propaganda work has been carried out in this direction.

The system of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education held over 580 roundtables and meetings, during which information is given on the negative consequences of “mass culture”.

During the press conference, it was noted that despite propaganda events, there are still categories of people who want to hold weddings magnificently. The dissemination of such cases on social networks indicates the need to strengthen the work of all responsible structures together with the general public.

During the press conference, representatives of the media received answers to all their questions.
