Issues of joint management and rational use of transboundary water resources in Central Asia discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A briefing on the use of transboundary water resources in Central Asia was held at the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Dunyo reported.

The event was attended by representatives of domestic and foreign media, international and regional organizations, ministries and departments of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the briefing, the Minister of Water Economy of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh. Khamraev emphasized the relevance of the issue of joint management and rational use of transboundary water resources in the Central Asian region and that water is the main factor ensuring the socio-economic and environmental stability of the countries of the region.

In a short time, thanks to the joint efforts of the leaders of Central Asian countries, a new political atmosphere has been created in the region.

Today, all countries of Central Asia are unanimous in their opinion that the readiness and sincere desire for cooperation and the responsibility of all states for a common future are a solid foundation and guarantee of the region’s sustainable development and prosperity.

It was noted that joint working groups between Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries on cooperation in water resources management have been created and are successfully functioning, within the framework of which problematic issues on water management are solved on a bilateral basis.

Participants were informed about the measures being taken to increase the efficiency of water use and the development of water-saving technologies, the efficiency and reduce the specific volume of water use with improving the reclamation status of irrigated lands.
