Issues of interaction in the field of nuclear energy discussed
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 24 August 2019, the Head of the Uzbekistan Mission to the EU, Ambassador Dilyor Khakimov, met with Hans Rein, Head of the International Atomic Energy Commission of the European Union (“Euroatom”).
During the talks, the European side expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation with Uzbekistan in the energy sector, including in the field of nuclear energy in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2011. In this regard, the parties emphasized the importance of establishing an interregional dialogue in this direction.
The representative of Euroatom welcomed the creation of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and showed interest in the decision of our country to build the first nuclear power plant in Central Asia. The readiness was expressed to continue cooperation with Uzbekistan in the interests of ensuring a high level of safety of the future nuclear power plant. In particular, as was emphasized during a thorough discussion, Euroatom is ready to cooperate with Uzbekistan to conduct stress tests on the safety of nuclear power plants.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on taking the necessary measures to intensify the dialogue by exchanging information and experience with interested ministries and departments of our country, as well as on conducting visits in the near future at the level of leadership of the relevant departments of the two sides.
