Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 25 February 2020, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Kadambay Sultanov in Riga met with the Director General of the Food and Veterinary Service (PVS) of the Republic of Latvia Maris Balodis.
An exchange of views took place on strengthening practical cooperation in the field of promoting an increase in Uzbek exports of fruits and vegetables to the Baltic countries, Northern and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, as well as a partnership between the veterinary services of Uzbekistan and Latvia.
Maris Bolodis praised the large-scale reforms led by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in improving the food and veterinary security system in Uzbekistan, and efforts to increase the export of fruits and vegetables. He declared readiness of the service headed by him for fruitful cooperation with the Uzbek side in the mentioned key areas.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on working out the issue of organizing a meeting between the heads of veterinary structures of Uzbekistan and Latvia as part of their joint participation in the 88th General Assembly of the World Organization for the Protection of Animal Health (WHO) in Paris on 24-29 May, as well as a visit of experts Latvian Veterinary Service to our country in order to implement the EU project “Border Management in Central Asia” (BOMCA) for conducting trainings and seminars on the specifics of the standardization system in the EU.
The parties also agreed on the participation of Maris Balodis in the Latvian delegation at the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Tashkent.
