Issues of cooperation with the Museum of Islamic Art of Malaysia discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 11 March 2020, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Ravshan Usmanov met with the director of the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) Saeed Muhammad Al-Bukhari in Kuala Lumpur.

The Museum of Islamic Art of Malaysia was created in December 1998 by the Malaysian billionaire and philanthropist Said Mukhtar Al-Bukhari. The main goal is to create a collection representing the culture and art of the entire Islamic world. This cultural institution also carries out research and publishing.

Among the exhibits of the museum there are artifacts from Uzbekistan, including the Koran (Bukhara, the 18th century), an astronomical device - astrolabe (Bukhara, the 19th century), textile items - suzane, a woman’s dressing gown (19th century), and utensils (Bukhara, the 18th century) , women’s jewelry made of gold and silver (Bukhara, 18-19 centuries) and others.

During the meeting, the Malaysian side was informed about the purposeful work being carried out in the country to revive and preserve national and religious values, study and promote the rich scientific and spiritual heritage of great Muslim scholars and thinkers.

Along with this, the museum’s leadership was solemnly handed over the album-books of the “Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in the World Collections” series, the architectural epigraphy of Uzbekistan, as well as facsimile copies of the “Katta of the Langar Quran” and the manuscript “Zafarnome”.

Said Muhammad Al-Bukhari expressed gratitude to the Uzbek side for their significant contribution to the museum’s collection and noted that in the near future an exhibition of donated books and manuscripts would be organized in order to popularize the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan.

Following the talks, an agreement was reached on considering the possibility of implementing international cultural, educational and media projects on the joint publication of a series of books “The Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in World Collections” on relics and artifacts from Uzbekistan and Central Asia stored in the Malaysian Museum, as well as the creation of a documentary on the heritage Imam al-Bukhari.
