Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 16 June, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sadik Safoev met with the UN Resident Representative in Uzbekistan, Helena Fraser.
During the meeting, issues of further expanding cooperation within the framework of the recently signed Action Plan (Roadmap) on the development of cooperation with the UN and its specialized institutions were discussed.
The action plan aims to deepen and strengthen partnerships with the UN system at the national, regional and global levels in order to promote human development for all, especially for the most vulnerable and needy sectors of society.
As a full member of the UN, as well as a signatory to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all 193 UN member states in September 2015, Uzbekistan shares a global commitment to striving for a peace that ensures equality, prosperity and dignity and justice for all people on a safe and healthy planet.
It should be noted that the above obligations are fully enshrined in the Strategy of Action for the five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017–2021, adopted in February 2017.
“This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the UN,” said S. Safoev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate. - Over the past period, the UN has played an important role in the development of mankind, preventing new world wars. On the basis of the President’s instructions on deepening the comprehensive cooperation of Uzbekistan with the UN and its specialized institutions, raising it to a qualitatively new level, a “Road Map” has been developed, which includes 17 directions, in particular the foreign policy initiatives of the head of state, efforts to promote and implement proposals aimed at on sustainable development, as well as ideas on ensuring and achieving sustainable economic development in the world. In addition, it is planned to implement, together with UN institutes, new programs in such areas as health, education, upbringing, culture, and tourism. In general, the Road Map is important in ensuring a new level of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN.
During the meeting, it was noted that in the anniversary year of the UN, the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopts this Action Plan as a commitment to the multilateral approach.
“I think that this document will further strengthen ongoing cooperation with the government of Uzbekistan, and we will do our best to achieve our goals,” said Helena Fraser, UN Resident Representative in Uzbekistan. - The signing in June of the Roadmap between the Government of Uzbekistan and the United Nations system has symbolic significance. Since it was 75 years ago, on June 26, the Charter of the United Nations was signed.
During the meeting, issues of joint implementation of the Roadmap and the development of its mechanisms were also discussed. In particular, an agreement was reached on once a month monitoring the implementation of the Roadmap by representatives of the UN and relevant ministries and departments of Uzbekistan, as well as exercising public control together with the media and other civil society institutions.
