Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ISMI), a meeting was held with the British delegation led by Nick Gurr, director of the Department of International Security Policy for Central Asia and Euro-Atlantic, British Defense Ministry.
During the conversation, prospects for cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom were discussed, an exchange of views took place on pressing issues of international and regional security.
The British side was informed about ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, foreign policy priorities, including ongoing work to strengthen good neighborliness, ensure stability and sustainable development in Central Asia.
Highly appreciating the dynamic reforms of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the head of the British delegation noted that the fundamental changes taking place in the country were welcomed and supported in London.
Great Britain pays special attention to strengthening close partnerships with Uzbekistan, which has established itself as a stable country, occupying an important strategic position in the Central Asian region.
In recent years, contacts between the defense departments of the two countries have been steadily developing. The exchange of experience in training military personnel and assistance in learning English play an important role in improving the professionalism of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The meeting also paid special attention to the responsible policy of Uzbekistan in the Afghan direction. The parties noted that vigorous international efforts contribute to the early launch of an inter-Afghan peace dialogue.
At the end of the meeting, agreements were reached on the further development of ISMI’s scientific and expert cooperation with British defense research institutions.
