Islam Karimov pays visit to Surkhandarya region
The Surkhandarya Regional Kengash (Council) of People’s Representatives convened December 19 for a special session. President Islam Karimov addressed the meeting with a keynote speech.
Wide-ranging transformation has been in progress in Surkhandarya region like it is all across the nation, President Karimov said. Numerous modern enterprises were established in recent years, communication networks were laid out, the services infrastructure was perfected and social sphere facilities – new schools, lyceums and colleges, children’s music and arts schools, healthcare and sporting institutions – have been erected lately. All this serves to reinforce the living conveniences in this ancient and inimitable oasis. In this province, the gross regional product in 2013 has grown by 9.4%, the production of agricultural goods increased by 6%, the volume of construction works enhanced by 11%, while that of paid services swelled by 18.5%.
Investments totaling US$2.877 billion have been drawn in the province with an aim to refresh and modernize a variety of spheres and economy sectors in 2005-2013 from all sources, the head of our state noted.
Along with accomplishments evident in Surkhandarya region, the President of the country drew the attention also to some existing shortcomings and problems, UzA reported.
The session participants then considered managerial issue. Normumin Chariev has been dismissed the post of hokim (governor) of Surkhandarya region.
Nominated by President Islam Karimov, the hitherto head of department at the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan Eshdavlat Juraev has been approved as hokim of the province.
Later the day, President Islam Karimov visited the border complex “Hairaton” and held conversation with officers and privates.
