IsDB Allocates US$110 Million for Samarkand I and Samarkand II Solar Projects in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has approved financing in the amount of US$110 million for two large-scale projects in Uzbekistan, Samarkand I and Samarkand II.

The funds will be used for the construction of solar photovoltaic power plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS), which will increase clean generation capacity and enhance the reliability of the national power grid.

The decision to allocate the financing was made at the 363rd meeting of the IsDB Board of Executive Directors.

The Samarkand II project will receive US$65 million and предусматривает the installation of 500 MW of solar capacity along with an energy storage system rated at 334 MW/668 MWh. The Samarkand I project will receive US$45 million with similar generation and storage parameters.

Both projects are aimed at expanding private sector financing in solar energy, meeting the country’s growing electricity demand, improving the reliability of power supply, and strengthening Uzbekistan’s energy security.

The combined capacity of the two facilities will amount to 1,000 MW of solar generation and 668 MW/1,336 MWh of energy storage, representing a significant contribution to the development of renewable energy in the republic.
