Investment projects worth 30.4 trillion soums to be implemented in Samarkand region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 24 April, in Samarkand, the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov addressed the residents of Samarkand region, dedicated to the disclosure of a new system of work to attract investments, develop external trade and job creation in Samarkand region.

The event was attended by the leadership of the relevant complex of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, specialized departments, industry associations, commercial banks, as well as entrepreneurs and exporters of the region and representatives of the media.

The address voiced the key tasks for the development of entrepreneurship, improving the standard of living and supporting the entrepreneurial initiatives of youth, identified by the Head of State during his visit to the Samarkand region on 15-16 April.

It was announced that 1,279 investment projects worth 30.4 trillion soums will be implemented in 462 makhallas of the region in 2021-2022, due to which 25.8 thousand new jobs will be created. It was noted that for the timely and high-quality implementation of investment projects, a new system of coordination of ministries, departments, industry associations, commercial banks and local authorities will be introduced, covering all stages of the project cycle: development of investment proposals, search and selection of initiators, allocation of land and credit resources, ensuring connection to utility networks and other issues.

The issues of providing systematic support for export activities in the region were touched upon. It was noted that the Export Promotion Agency allocated funds for financial support to exporters to cover part of the transport costs, insurance premium costs when using insurance services as collateral, compensation for costs associated with participation in international exhibitions and fairs and obtaining the necessary certificates and other purposes. There is also a mechanism for allocating credit resources to exporters to replenish working capital at the expense of the Exporters Support Fund under the Export Promotion Agency - since the beginning of this year, at the request of exporters, about 570 billion soums have been allocated in this way.

It was emphasized that responsible leaders will expand activities to provide comprehensive support to exporters and stimulate export activities.

Particular attention during the event was paid to measures to use the "drivers" of economic development in the region: production of building materials, textile, electrical, food, chemical and metallurgical industries. In this context, the leadership of the Samarkand region provided information on urgent tasks to increase the investment potential of the region and measures to attract new investors.

Also, the heads of the largest commercial banks disclosed the issues of expanding the scope of providing financial services to entrepreneurs and manufacturers and increasing the volume of financing for large industrial projects in the region.

In a separate order, it was told about the priority measures aimed at fulfilling the task set by the Head of State to transform Urgut district into an innovative special economic zone and create its branches in other regions.

Also during the event, the heads of the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Uzpromstroymaterialy Association, the Uztekstilprom Association, the Uzeltekhprom Association and the Export Promotion Agency made speeches. The priority tasks for the development of the regional energy supply system, transport infrastructure, the tourism sector, as well as for the implementation of initiatives to stimulate youth entrepreneurship and the creation of youth industrial and entrepreneurial zones.

As a result of their speeches, representatives of the media were able to ask questions on topics of interest and receive information from the heads of the relevant government departments.
