Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 February, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Uzbekistan H. Assan, as well as the leadership of the Malaysian company Serba Dinamik Group Berhad. The khokim of Khorezm region F. Ermanov also took part in the meeting.
The main directions of the development of Uzbek-Malaysian relations in the investment, trade and economic spheres were discussed in the context of large-scale socio-economic reforms carried out in the Republic. The significant interest of the business community of Malaysia in doing business in Uzbekistan was emphasized, bearing in mind the creation of joint ventures in priority sectors of the economy - the extraction and processing of natural gas, the production of electrical, chemical and textile products, as well as the intensification of trade in textiles, food products, equipment and chemical products.
The dialogue touched upon a wide range of prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation, allowing participants to exchange visions on the mechanisms for further expanding investment and trade partnerships, while allowing them to consider and work out specific cases of Malaysian investors, including a large-scale project for the production of caustic soda and liquid chlorine in the Khazarasp free economic zone. The parties discussed current issues related to the implementation of the project and worked out optimal solutions that will eliminate the obstacles and accelerate the pre-project preparation of this investment initiative.
Following the meeting, the leadership of the Ministry and the diplomatic mission of Malaysia in Uzbekistan also came to an understanding of the advisability of organizing such meetings on an ongoing basis to discuss general and private issues of investment and trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
