Investigation Underway in Samarkand Region into Death of Newborn Found in Maternity Hospital Toilet
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Authorities in Samarkand Region are conducting an investigation following the discovery of a newborn’s body in a toilet near a maternity facility, according to the regional police department.
According to law enforcement and local media reports, the incident occurred in the Payarik District. A woman gave birth near the maternity hospital and left the newborn in a toilet’s trash container. The act was recorded by surveillance cameras. The infant was later found deceased.
The police stated that a forensic medical examination has been ordered. The results will determine whether the baby was born alive or stillborn. Based on the expert findings, a decision will be made regarding the initiation of a criminal case.
Authorities have pledged to provide further information once the forensic examination and procedural review are completed.
