Introduction of WHO Europe strategy “Health 2020” discussed in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent hosted an inter-sectoral meeting of high level “Strengthening measures in interest of health and well-being of population of Uzbekistan. Introduction of European policy and strategy Health 202” on 14 March 2014.

At the 63rd session of the regional committee of the WHO Europe, Uzbekistan along with other 300 authorized ministers and representatives of the country supported to the policy Health 2020. Additionally, they presented plans and experience on Health-2020 implementation in their countries.

After adoption of the plan, some countries are developing national strategy documents based on the Health 2020. Other countries of the region are focusing on developing and introducing separate topical strategy and plans base on key principles of Health 2020 and recommendations, based on evidences and facts.

Health 2020 reflects main health problems such as infectious diseases, obesity, cancer and heart problems, decreasing expenses for state services, etc.

Uzbekistan has enough successful experience of conducting inter-sectoral complex measures in preventing and controlling infectious diseases, developing and introducing programmes of reproductive health, maternity, childhood and adopting measures to prevent and control non-infectious diseases.

Uzbekistan decided to accept proposals of the WHO Europe in developing and introducing single strategy document, uniting all efforts and plans in the interest of health and well-being based on project of the strategy on developing public healthcare, etc.

European Regional Bureau of the WHO also is ready to help to implementation of Health 2020 to all countries, which decided to implement the strategy.

The country agreed to hold subregional technical meeting and accept the guests from Central Asian states to exchange experience in 2014. The WHO Europe was interested in holding this event in Tashkent and its chief is planning to visit it.

The participants of the international meeting, which was held in practical spirit, noted that Uzbekistan has significant experience in implementation of Health 2020 and can serves as model for developing member countries of the WHO Europe.
