Introduction of bus rapid transit discussed in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting with experts from Korea on the theme “Supporting the development strategy of the integrated public transport system of Tashkent” was held in the city khokimiyat.
It was attended by the activists with representatives of organizations responsible for transport development.
At a meeting in co-working, the idea of Bus rapid transit (BRT) development was presented by Mirziyod Mirsaitov, acting Head of Transport Infrastructure Development Department of the Ministry of Innovations.
The main idea of the “high-speed bus” is to create a dedicated route for traffic and stop stations for boarding passengers as at metro stations. Generally speaking, BRT in many ways is very similar to the subway, but instead of electric trains - buses. BRT works, for example, in Buenos Aires. For those who want to learn more in detail there is an article in Wikipedia.
When asked about the fate of the proposed project and its status, Mirsaitov responded that the project was recommended for consideration in the Transport Development Concept. The Ministry of Innovations will be the project coordinator and its full participant - along with the city khokimiyat.
It’s a matter of making a decision at a higher level, since the introduction of a “high-speed bus” is connected with additional investments, including foreign ones.
