International Report “State of Global Air 2025” Highlights Uzbekistan’s Progress in Air Quality Management
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has been recognized among the countries that have made significant progress in air quality monitoring and regulation, according to the annual international report State of Global Air 2025, published on 23 October.
The report notes that Uzbekistan has strengthened its national air quality management system and expanded its environmental monitoring infrastructure.
The authors particularly highlighted the adoption of updated national standards for fine particulate matter (PM2.5). For the first time in Central Asia, the country aligned its annual limit (35 µg/m³) with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) interim target levels.
Since 2022, Uzbekistan’s national air monitoring network has expanded significantly and currently includes 89 observation sites across 26 cities, among them 23 modern automatic stations and one mobile station. Plans are underway to install an additional 347 mini-stations, which will provide broader and more even territorial coverage.
The automatic stations cover all regional centers of the country, ensuring hourly data updates and integration into open online platforms accessible to the public and researchers.
In addition, work is underway to develop the National Air Protection Strategy – 2035, a comprehensive roadmap aimed at uniting the efforts of government bodies, research institutions, and the private sector in air quality management.
These measures demonstrate that Uzbekistan is consistently implementing environmental protection policies and strengthening its regional leadership in applying science-based tools for environmental governance.
