International conference on Aral Sea to take place in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An international conference on “Joint actions to mitigate the consequences of the Aral catastrophe: new approaches, innovative solutions, investments” will be held in Tashkent on 7-8 June 2018.

The purpose of the international conference is to coordinate, in the framework of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, the practical orientation and coordination of activities of the Aral Sea basin countries in solving the problems of the Aral Sea basin, analyzing and evaluating the ongoing programs to mitigate the consequences of the Aral catastrophe and identifying ways of cooperation in implementing projects aimed at improving the environmental and socio- economic situation in the Aral Sea Basin region, as well as attracting investments for their implementation.

MPs and officials of ministries, departments and public organizations of Central Asian countries, leading experts from more than 20 countries of the world, representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations, prominent scientists and specialists will take part in the conference.

The participants of the conference will make a trip to the zone of the Aral Sea to the cities of Nukus and Muynak on 7 June, visit the Cemetery of Ships on the dried-up bottom of the Aral Sea, where they will familiarize themselves with the ecological situation in the region and meet local residents and representatives of state bodies and public organizations.
