Interior Ministry: Janis Galanos was in Uzbekistan with overdue passport

Janis Galanos was born in Tashkent on 10 June 1982 and was the citizen of Uzbekistan till 2009. He received citizenship of Greece on the same year, the ministry said.

The ministry said that Janis Galanos violated the legislation on Uzbekistan as he was staying in Uzbekistan with overdue passport of Greece, which expired in March 2011, and had no entry visa and temporary registration.

Based on legislation of Uzbekistan, Janis Galanos was arrested by the law enforcement bodies due to violation of entry rules. Currently, he is at the Rehabilitation Center for confirming identity.

On 16 December 2013, the employees of consular workers of the Embassy of Italy met with Mr. Galanos based on verbal note of the Embassy of Italy.

Currently, the Embassy of Italy is considering issue on speeding up registration of documents, required to sending Janis Galanos to Greece.
