Inspector Detained in Khorezm Region for US$1,000 Bribe

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An inspector from the prevention department in the Khorezm region has been detained for accepting a bribe, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

According to the authorities, a citizen approached the officer with a complaint regarding a conflict with a partner in their private joint company. The complainant alleged that the partner had been forging signatures on documents and misappropriating income.

The inspector promised to arrange an expert evaluation in favor of the complainant through his contacts and demanded US$1,000 for this service. He was caught red-handed in Khiva while receiving the agreed sum.

The Khorezm Regional Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a criminal case under Article 168, Part 3, Clause “v” (fraud committed using official position) and Article 211, Part 1 (giving a bribe) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The detainee has been placed in custody as a preventive measure.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs urged citizens who witness corruption or other offenses by law enforcement officers to report via the numbers 1102 or 71 234‑31‑74. Confidentiality is guaranteed for informants.
