Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Embassy of Uzbekistan in France took part in the ChangeNOW 2020 summit, which was held at the Grand Palais exhibition center in Paris, Dunyo reports.

During the session on biodiversity and sustainable development, the diplomatic mission of our country presented information on the efforts of Uzbekistan aimed at mitigating the effects of the drying of the Aral Sea, restoration and socio-economic development of the Aral Sea regions, as well as improving the living conditions and quality of life of the local population.

The initiatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to create a multi-partner trust fund on human security for the Aral Sea region under the auspices of the United Nations, the International Aral Sea Innovation Center, as well as declaring the region a zone of environmental innovation and technology were highlighted.

The attention of the participants was drawn to the decisive actions of the leadership of Uzbekistan to improve the environmental situation, restore biodiversity in the region.

It was emphasized that overcoming the effects of the drying up of the sea cannot be ensured by the efforts of only one country and requires the active consolidation of international efforts, including international institutions.

A film was shown to the participants, telling about the efforts of Uzbekistan to solve the Aral problem, as well as the activities of the Multi-partner Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region.

Speaking at the event, President of the Greater Paris Alliance for Sustainable Investments, Nicolae Bushou, shared his visit to Uzbekistan twice, including to attend the high-level international conference organized under the auspices of the UN “Aral Sea - Zone of Environmental Innovations and Technologies”, held in Nukus in October 2019 of the year.

“At the invitation of the Uzbek side, I visited the city of Muynak, where I witnessed the planting of green spaces on the dry bottom of the Aral Sea, as well as other innovative solutions to ensure sustainable development in the region,” he said. - These initiatives are consonant with the goals of the ChangeNOW Summit, which prompted us to organize, together with the Embassy of Uzbekistan in France, the participation of representatives of Uzbekistan in the event. The presentation presented within the framework of our forum about the aggravating situation in the Aral Sea region after the drying up of the Aral Sea subsequently raised the awareness of the participants about the global tragedy. We are ready to consider the possibility of organizing a joint event in Nukus dedicated to the search for innovative solutions to the complex of problems in this region with the participation of representatives of business and scientific circles, financial institutions of France and other countries.

“I made a report at the ChangeNOW Summit on the importance of energy conservation and control,” says Emmanuel Francois, head of SBA - Smart Building Alliance for smart cities. - Uzbekistan has great potential in this area, as the country has a unique resource - the ability to use solar energy almost all year round. This provides great prospects for Uzbekistan to develop international cooperation in this direction.

“ChangeNOW” is a key global initiative founded within the framework of the Paris Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP-21) with the aim of finding new solutions for the planet and peoples. On the agenda are issues in the field of climate change, the environment, agriculture, education, energy, sustainable management of cities and regions.

The event was attended by over 20 thousand representatives from more than 100 countries and 500 companies, about 300 speakers spoke, and over 5 thousand meetings in the B2B format were organized within its framework.
