Information on Preparations for the Winter Season Heard in the Oliy Majlis

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamahmudov presented information on the work carried out to ensure stable energy supply, improve the quality of services for the population, and prepare for the autumn-winter period.

The minister noted that in recent years, taking into account the needs of the rapidly growing economy and population, large-scale reforms have been implemented in Uzbekistan’s energy system.

Over the past several years, the sector has attracted US$35 billion in foreign investments, and nine thousand megawatts of new capacity have been commissioned.

As a result, electricity production has increased from 60 billion kilowatt-hours in 2017 to 85 billion kilowatt-hours in the current year.

It is noteworthy that the capacity of commissioned solar and wind power plants totals approximately 5,000 megawatts, while hydropower plants contribute 400 megawatts.

From January to November of this year, the fuel and energy sector absorbed US$8.8 billion in foreign investments. Of this amount, US$6.3 billion was allocated to electricity generation, US$4.7 billion to green energy projects, and US$2.5 billion to the oil and gas sector. In 2025, the launch of 58 major projects with a total value of US$40.5 billion is planned.

Among these are five solar power plants with a combined capacity of 1,413 megawatts, four wind power plants totaling 752 megawatts, six hydropower plants with 168 megawatts, three thermal power plants totaling 1,167.3 megawatts, and nine energy storage facilities with a combined capacity of 1,147 megawatts.

In preparation for the autumn-winter season, 787 kilometers of trunk networks and 29,500 kilometers of distribution networks were overhauled, along with transformers at nine main substations and 10,270 transformer points.

In Tashkent, 863.1 kilometers of distribution networks were repaired, along with a transformer at one main substation and 670 transformer points. In addition, 7,500 kilometers of electrical networks and 1,748 transformer points across the country were reconstructed and modernized.

A total of 279 emergency teams were formed nationwide, equipped with 224 vehicles and 279 units of specialized machinery. Internal surfaces of 3,591.4 kilometers of pipelines were cleaned, and gas pumping units at 91 compressor stations were repaired. To improve gas supply to consumers, 553.1 kilometers of gas networks and 971 gas distribution points were overhauled, and 50,195 gas distribution points underwent technical inspections.

Deputies provided proposals and recommendations aimed at creating a more favorable investment climate in the sector, improving electricity networks, ensuring uninterrupted energy supply for the population and economy during the autumn-winter period, and enhancing state support mechanisms for the introduction of renewable energy sources.

Special attention was given to infrastructure modernization, the introduction of innovative solutions, and improving the quality of service for the population.

At the conclusion of the session, the Legislative Chamber adopted the relevant decision based on the information presented by Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamahmudov.
