Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 29 July, the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on international relations, foreign economic relations, foreign investment and tourism discussed online information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan on its activities in the first half of this year, hearing which is envisaged at the next plenary meeting of the upper house of parliament.

The event was attended by members of the Senate, representatives of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, deputies of local Kengashes and senior officials of the khokimiyats.

During the event, Deputy Foreign Minister A. Nematov presented information on the implementation of the target tasks by the Ministry. The discussion focused on the work done by the ministry in the wide and effective use of the opportunities of external relations and external economic cooperation in the priority areas identified by the head of state for the development of regions. In particular, with the assistance of the Ministry in the spheres of agriculture, industry, construction, pharmaceuticals, education and culture, investments and loans in the amount of US$3 billion were mastered. Globally, amid a pandemic, thousands of fellow citizens who remained in difficult conditions in other states have been returned to their homeland.

In addition, representatives of the regions of the republic put forward specific and relevant proposals, discussed important aspects and shortcomings that affect the activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The emphasis is on issues that hinder projects implemented on the basis of foreign investment.

At the same time, attention was paid to the work and urgent tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in mitigating the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the economy of Uzbekistan. It was noted that it is necessary to improve the interaction of the ministry with other departments and khokimiyats of regions, to widely use the potential of local Kengashes in this process to strengthen public control.

Suggestions and opinions were also expressed, which will be taken into account in the draft resolution of the Senate regarding the information provided on the activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the first half of 2020.
