Inflation in Uzbekistan in January Reached 0.7% for the Month and 7.2% Year-on-Year

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In January 2026, the overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Uzbekistan increased by 0.7% for the month and by 7.2% compared to January 2025, according to the National Statistics Committee.

Excluding changes in prices for fruits and vegetables, the CPI rose 0.6% for the month (compared to 0.4% in January 2025) and 8.1% year-on-year (compared to 12.0% in January 2025).

Among key food products, monthly price increases were observed for lamb (+1.6%, +27.2% year-on-year), boneless beef (+1.1%, +25.0% year-on-year), bone-in beef (+1.0%, +23.8% year-on-year), poultry meat (+1.4–1.5%, +5.3–5.8% year-on-year), raw milk (+1.0%, +6.0% year-on-year), eggs (+0.6%, +0.3% year-on-year), vegetable oils (+0.4%, +12.8% year-on-year), and granulated sugar (+1.0%, –3.7% year-on-year). Prices decreased for rice (–1.1%, –16.7% year-on-year) and refined sugar (–0.4%, –2.3% year-on-year).

Among major fruits and vegetables, the sharpest monthly increases were for bell peppers (+18.5%, –11.0% year-on-year), bananas (+6.3%, –4.1% year-on-year), lemons (+4.9%, +90.8% year-on-year), cabbage (+3.8%, +27.9% year-on-year), potatoes (+1.9%, –15.9% year-on-year), carrots (+1.8%, +9.5% year-on-year), and onions (+1.2%, –1.9% year-on-year). Prices declined for mandarins (–2.4%, +19.3% year-on-year), oranges (–2.3%, +8.8% year-on-year), and tomatoes (–2.1%, +1.6% year-on-year).

Coal (market prices) rose 2.3% and firewood 1.7%, newly included in the monitored basket from January 2026. Regional increases occurred for waste collection, hot water, and heating tariffs, with average nationwide increases of 0.2% for waste collection, 0.3% for heating, and 0.9% for hot water. Costs of maintenance and repairs for residential properties rose less than 0.5% for the month.

In healthcare, diagnostic imaging services rose 1.5% (+9.4% year-on-year), outpatient treatment and rehabilitation services +1.0% (+8.8%), therapeutic massage services +0.7% (+5.3%), dental services +0.7% (+4.7%), inpatient treatment and rehabilitation +0.7% (+6.7%), and medical laboratory services +0.7% (+9.0%).

Fuel prices increased moderately: gasoline CPI rose 0.6% for the month (AI-92 +0.6%, AI-95 +0.4%, AI-98 and AI-100 +0.3%), propane +8.9% (+12.3% year-on-year, capped at 8,500 UZS per liter), while methane prices remained nearly unchanged (+0.1%, +30.2% year-on-year).

Driver training courses, driving lessons, exams, and license issuance rose on average 5.0% due to higher costs of theoretical and practical exams. Prices fell for long-distance train tickets (–0.5%, +8.6% year-on-year) and air travel (–5.0%, +17.1% year-on-year), reflecting currency strengthening and adjusted route tariffs.

Mobile communication services rose 2.4% (+17.9% year-on-year), while streaming service subscriptions (–0.2%) and paid messenger/AI subscriptions (–0.8%) declined. Education services remained mostly stable, with minor increases for private kindergartens (+0.2%, +4.2% year-on-year) and language/tutoring courses (+0.3%, +5.4% year-on-year).

After a period of stability, insurance services grew, with CPI for personal vehicle insurance reaching 381.8% nationwide, contributing 0.11 percentage points to the overall monthly CPI.

The short-term CPI range for goods and services varied from 99.4% (feminine hygiene products) to 107.0% (precious metal rings). Yearly CPI ranged from 101.3% (diapers) to 132.6% (precious metal rings). Other categories had smaller impacts on the aggregate CPI. Regional deviations from the national average were negligible.

In January 2026, CPI for goods rose 0.6% for the month (0.6% in January 2025) and 5.4% year-on-year (4.7% in January 2025). Food CPI was 0.8% monthly (0.8% in January 2025) and 5.5% year-on-year (2.6% in January 2025). Non-food goods CPI increased 0.4% monthly (0.3% in January 2025) and 5.2% annually (7.7% in January 2025). Services CPI rose 0.8% for the month (1.1% in January 2025) and 13.5% year-on-year (127.0% in January 2025).

The largest contribution to the monthly CPI in January 2026 came from “Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages” (+0.32 p.p., 47.8% of total impact), with insurance and household goods/services adding +0.18 p.p., and other categories contributing +0.17 p.p.

For annual CPI growth, the main drivers were food and non-alcoholic beverages, and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, together contributing 4.05 percentage points (over half of total growth).

From January 2026, the National Statistics Committee also calculates an additional CPI using the geometric Young formula for analytical purposes. In January 2026, this CPI equaled 100.6% for the month.
