In Surkhandarya Region, 15-Year-Old Schoolgirl Married Despite Official Warning

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Surkhandarya region, a 15-year-old girl was married off despite an official warning, the press service of the National Agency for Social Protection of the Population reported.

The incident occurred in the Ozod mahalla of Denau district. In July, representatives of the mahalla, together with social workers, conducted an inspection regarding the attempted marriage of the underage schoolgirl and issued an official warning to the family. However, on August 10, it was reported that the marriage had nevertheless taken place.

Administrative measures were taken against the violators, and they were fined.

The girl is currently continuing her studies at the vocational and technical school in Denau district. Her rights and educational process remain under constant monitoring by the relevant authorities.
