Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Wheat flour of the first grade and edible salt imported to Uzbekistan should be fortified with micronutrients, the Cabinet of Ministers’s resolution said.

The requirements are aimed at implementing the resolution of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev "On measures to prevent non-communicable diseases, support a healthy lifestyle and increase the level of physical activity of the population."

Currently, the requirement for micronutrient fortification applies only to first-grade wheat flour and edible salt produced in Uzbekistan.

At the same time, only 30% of all flour on the market of Uzbekistan is enriched with micronutrients. Fortified with vitamins and minerals, wheat flour is consumed by about 56% of the population. During 2019-2022, it is planned to provide fortified flour to 90% of the population.

The requirements will enter into force on 1 April 2020.
