Import of Cement to Uzbekistan Drops Nearly 90% Due to Production Growth

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The “Uzpromstroymaterialy” Association has issued an official statement regarding cement imports into Uzbekistan, a topic that has been widely discussed on social media.

The statement notes that in recent years, the sector has achieved significant success in preventing financial crises at enterprises, efficiently utilizing production capacities, and creating new jobs. Today, more than 10,000 people are employed in the industry.

According to the association, the total production capacity of Uzbekistan’s cement plants in 2025 is 40.5 million tons across 42 enterprises, 0.7 million tons more than in 2024. Between January and September 2025, 18 million tons of cement were produced, 28% higher than during the same period last year.

The increase in production of high-quality cement grades, such as M-500 and M-600, has led to a sharp decline in imports. In the first half of 2025, only 38 thousand tons of cement were imported, 91% less than in the same period in 2024. For the first nine months, imports totaled 66.3 thousand tons, an 89% decrease compared to last year.

Cement exports from January to September 2025 reached nearly 1.1 million tons, almost four times higher than last year’s figure.

The association emphasizes that the current free trade regime within the CIS facilitates the expansion of foreign markets for Uzbek producers, while imports from CIS countries are exempt from customs duties.

The statement concludes that the competitiveness of domestic producers, their active role in supplying the domestic market, and the expansion of export potential are key factors in strengthening Uzbekistan’s economic independence.
