Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - An event was held in Tashkent today to launch the “Decade of Action to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals until 2030” initiative in Uzbekistan. It is timed to 2 March, when 28 years ago Uzbekistan became a full member of the United Nations.

The organizers of this event were the UN country team in Uzbekistan, together with the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and the national movement “Yuksalish”.

The event was attended by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva.

The Chairperson of the Senate noted that active relations and the development of interaction with the United Nations fully meet the national interests of the Republic of Uzbekistan. One of the important areas of cooperation between the UN and Uzbekistan is the consistent achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN General Agenda until 2030 (SDGs).

It was emphasized that the provisions of the Strategy for Action in the five priority areas of the development of the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2021 are fully consonant with and coincide with the SDGs. Based on this, our country pays special attention to the practical implementation of UN resolutions and decisions, as well as the development of cooperation for their implementation.

To this end, the Chambers of the Oliy Majlis formed the Parliamentary Commission to monitor the implementation of the National Sustainable Development Goals and Tasks for the period up to 2030.

It was noted that special attention will be paid to the eradication of poverty, improving the health of the population, combating violence against women, addressing environmental issues, ensuring gender equality and other areas.

All these measures are aimed at achieving practical and important practical results for the population in the course of large-scale transformations and reforms carried out in all spheres of the country’s life.
