Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The report of the ILO Committee of Experts on the application of conventions and recommendations by member states has been published on the website of the International Labor Organization (ILO). The report also includes information in Uzbekistan.
The document states that the ILO Committee of Experts welcomes the efforts of the government and social partners in Uzbekistan to eradicate child and forced labor.
The report refers to Uzbekistan positively in the context of two fundamental documents: the 1957 Convention on the Abolition of Forced Labor (No. 105) (ratification: 1997) and the Worst Forms of Child Labor Convention, 1999 (No. 182) (ratification: 2008).
In both cases, the CEACR notes the unprecedented efforts of the government, workers ‘and employers’ organizations to make progress in implementing these conventions.
In particular, it is emphasized that Uzbekistan has shown significant progress in eradicating forced labor during the cotton harvest in 2018.
The Committee also notes with satisfaction that children are no longer involved in cotton picking and that systematic or systemic child labor is no longer a concern.
